A Patient's Appreciation After 67 Years

Tim Anagnost

Grateful patient, Tim Anagnost's gift in honor of his parents celebrated with lifelong friends, Hon. Donald Slesnick and Dr. Carlos Suarez.

In 1951, a 7-year-old boy was admitted to Variety Children's Hospital to be treated for polio. The Hospital was known in that era as the "polio hospital" built to treat the youngest patients for weeks and months at a time. Fortunately for this young boy and his family, after a six-week stay the doctors and nurses helped cure his polio, and he went on to live a fulfilled and successful life. That was 67 years ago and that young boy was Tim Anagnost.

His memories of the care and compassion shown to him decades earlier by the doctors and nurses as well as the kindness extended by his parents and brother is truly moving. He recalled that his mother took two buses in the morning and two in the evening A Patient's Appreciation After 67 Years every day to visit him. As a result, Mr. Anagnost has made a substantial planned gift in his estate plan that will help the many children and families who come to Nicklaus Children's Hospital as was done for him so many years ago.

Last year, Mr. Anagnost decided to honor the memory of his parents, George and Georgia Anagnost, by placing their names at a Communication Station on the Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit on the fifth floor of the Advanced Pediatric Care Pavilion of Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Close family friends and classmates gathered at the hospital for the unveiling of the sign and to share memories.

Mr. Anagnost has been a vital, lifelong member of the Coral Gables community, a University of Miami Hurricane, attorney and dedicated supporter of the local performing and cultural arts. We are grateful for both these generous gifts and the spirit of kindness demonstrated by a donor after 67 years.
