Serving Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for Four Decades…and Beyond

Gary Gregory and his daughter, Taylor Peña

Gary Gregory and his daughter, Taylor Peña, have made supporting Nicklaus Children’s Hospital a family affair.

What can you say about a man who has served Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for four decades? You could say he is caring, selfless, wants to leave his community and the world a better place, or he derives great satisfaction from giving back. We at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital have been fortunate to have such a man as part of our community.

Gary Gregory has served our hospital community for 40 years through its evolution from Miami Children’s to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. His affiliation began in 1988 when he joined the hospital board as a member, serving through 2018. He has also served as the chairman from 1992 to 1994 and again from 2010 until 2012. During his tenure, he was chairman of the finance, investment, building and grounds, audit and compliance, and quality control committees. Gary was also a member of the Foundation board from 2010 to 2012. Most importantly, Gary volunteered at the hospital once a week for nearly two decades.

In 2014, Gary approached the Foundation to discuss making a planned gift. Gary decided that he would make a bequest through his will and that both he and his wife, Sheila, would become members of the Walters Legacy Society. Gary Gregory has been an integral part of this community for four decades, and, thanks to his generous gift, his legacy of philanthropy will continue well into the future.

If that were not enough, Gary has made this a family matter. His only child and daughter, Taylor Peña, became a member of the Nicklaus Children’s Young Ambassadors in 2011 and has been on their Leadership Council since 2013. This tradition lives on as a true inspiration to all.
