A Patient's Appreciation After 67 Years

In 1951, a 7-year-old boy was admitted to Variety Children's Hospital to be treated for polio. The Hospital was known in that era as the "polio hospital" built to treat the youngest patients for weeks and months at a time. Fortunately for this young boy and his family, after a six-week stay the doctors and nurses helped cure his polio, and he went on to live a fulfilled and successful life. That was 67 years ago and that young boy was Tim Anagnost.

Rita Auerbach Wallach was born in the Borough of the Bronx, New York, and moved with her family at a young age to Miami where she attended the University of Miami. She was a woman who loved her family, music, the arts and education. She possessed great talent, warmth and a good sense of humor. Mrs. Wallach had a son and daughter who sadly pre-deceased her, and her greatest dream of having grandchildren was never realized.

Florence Groover Frank was born and raised in Ohio. She later married, moved to Colorado, and after successfully operating her own fur store for 22 years, retired in Florida in the 1980s.

A Gift From the Heart

Gladys Stewart came to this country from Cuba as a young woman in 1948 to join members of her family and to seek a bright future. At the age of 75, Mrs. Stewart married and she and her husband shared a happy life together. After her husband, Frederick, passed away Mrs. Stewart mentioned to her cousin, Mrs. Josephine Clary, that since she did not have children of her own, she might want to help children and particularly less-fortunate ones.
